YEAR 13 RETROSPECTIVE

  • Gallery 42 42 St Joseph's Street Tadcaster, LS24 United Kingdom (map)

Our very own Steve Lawson curates a retrospective of the work of his art class at Tadcaster Grammar School. This will mark the first collaboration between the school and the gallery since Mr T J Moon became Head of Art at the school in 2011.

The Class of 2013 has produced some great work this year and I’ve loved being part of it. I wanted to give everyone a chance to exhibit in a real gallery, not just up at school and to be able to sell their work too. I wanted everyone to have that experience. Next academic year I hope to pursue studies of Art History and I’d love to become a curator. This is my first step and I hope people enjoy seeing and purchasing the work.

A bit of background

Mr Moon, who taught our very own Ellie Moore from 2011-12, taught Steve and his class at A Level. They were taught also by Miss L Velvick. Both teachers, along with Miss C Taylor, accompanied the students on a trip to New York in February 2013 which was very much enjoyed by staff and students alike. Places visited included MoMA, The Solomon R Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2012, a similar voyage to Amsterdam was equally well enjoyed and places visited included the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank Haus.

The Year 13 retrospective opens for a preview night on Thursday 18th July 2013 and will be publicly open from the next day. The exhibition will end mid-August when the Gallery re-fits for the Miniatures Exhibition.

There will be highlights from Year 12 (Class of 2014) also on display.
