allen tortice
Allen Tortice (b. 1948) is one of the most collected Northern painters in the UK today, with his work depicting Lowry-esque industrial and nostalgic scenes. He is Gallery 42's best-selling artist of recent years and his work only ever becomes more popular. A personal friend of ours for many years now, we are privileged to know such a man. Born into a mining family, Allen grew up in the industrial landscapes he shows us all today. Through his paintings and watercolours, we can learn a lot about his life, which also saw him serve as an excellent marksman for the army. Since 1987 Allen has maintained a serious focus on his art.
We currently have many originals and prints for sale - please bear with us as these are ever-changing (they sell that fast). We will do our best to update this page regularly, but often the best way to see the very latest work is to contact us or visit us in person.

'that one with the buses'
We've had many enquiries regarding 'that one with the buses', referring to this fantastic late 2014 painting by Tortice. Unfortunately the piece is now sold, but below is some information about it, and a button that opens a commissions enquiries form.
Club Trip (oil on canvas on panel, 2014), features a party of people gathered at East Ardsley railway station next to some buses, destined for Filey. A large work (dimensions following shortly), this is one of Tortice's most ambitious pictures to date. Included here is a photograph of the back of the piece, featuring one of the artist's classic musings. We are delighted to say this piece has recently been sold, but don't worry - we'll have more similar works from Tortice in the coming months.
Tortice welcomes commissions and now we've created this handy button allowing you to submit a commission enquiry. We will review your enquiry and respond to it within a couple of days, including a quote in our response to you.*
*You are not tied into making the purchase until you formally commission your original upon receipt of the quote and description.
